Person-centred Therapy

Meet Melanie
Hello, thank you for stopping by and checking out my webpage. My name is Melanie, and I’m a BACP qualified counselling therapist based in South-East Cornwall. I hold the following professional qualifications:
Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling & Therapy
Levels 2 & 3 Certificates in Counselling Studies
ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Mental Health First Aider
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding & Prevent
Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems
Level 2 Certificate in Self-Harm & Suicide awareness & Prevention.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and I am fully insured.
This background allows me to work with a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges while always keeping your safety and well-being at the centre of our work.
I have thirteen years previous experience teaching in post-education settings. This allows my understanding when working with young adults enabling them to work out their own strategies with their studies, and new lifestyle away from home.
I can work with clients who are 16+.

Did you know....
"I can help with short term issues. If there's something you'd like to explore and feel that you may only require one to two sessions. This is something that I can offer you."
"If you have just left home for college, university or work and finding it hard to adjust, short term sessions may help you work this out. This may also be helpful for parents of children who have just left home."
"I can help with more complex issues that you may wish to explore and this may mean for a longer term. Where I am happy to work with you either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, which will also help financially, and give you the much needed process time after sessions."
"My modality of Person-centred Therapy may help veterans with navigating their life back into society. By having someone to listen empathically and being non-judgmental, in a safe and confidential environment."
" A lot of emergency workers may have faced a lot of distressing situations and need space to process the trauma this may have caused. Therapy may allow them to continue with their valued and necessary work without so much suppressed trauma and burn-out."
"As I've experience with a teaching background, I can offer therapy for teachers/assistants with work overload/burn-out. Exploring with you a realistic work-life-balance."
FAQs
Common Questions
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy with me is grounded in confidentiality, trust, and compassion. I create a space where all parts of you are welcome — even the ones that feel hardest to face.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come to therapy. If you’re struggling, even silently, that’s reason enough to reach out.
How long are therapy sessions?
I offer a FREE Consultation online or phone for 15 minutes, to see if we are able to work together. If you feel that I am not the therapist for you, I am happy to help signpost you to a therapist or modality to suit your requirements.
Our first session will be completing our contract, getting to know & build a trust in each other.
The duration of therapy sessions may vary based on individual needs, typically lasting 60 minutes.
It is very important to know that sessions can be quite heavy, so try and make sure you have some self care plans afterwards, e.g a nice walk, listen to music, soak in a bath, a nice meal to look forward to for yourself.

What issues can therapy address?
I work in a way that’s gentle, respectful, and trauma-informed. Many of my clients come to therapy experiencing

- Persistent anxiety or panic
- The lasting effects of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
- A sense of disconnection, numbness, or shame
- Low self-esteem or identity struggles
- Feeling overwhelmed or “stuck”
- Self-harm
- Depression
- Men’s issues & abuse
- Suicidal thoughts or attempts
- Health related issues or disabilities
- Loss
- Childhood trauma.
These experiences can leave deep marks — but they do not define you. Together, we can explore how those experiences have shaped you and what healing might look like.
What is Person-centred therapy?
As a qualified person-centred therapist, I believe that you are the expert on your own life. My role is not to give advice or make assumptions, but to walk alongside you — offering empathy, unconditional positive regard, congruence, support, and a safe environment where you can make sense of your thoughts and feelings.
